Five SUPERVALU Women Named to Progressive Grocer's Second Annual ''Top Women in Grocery'' Listing

MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 19, 2008--Five members of SUPERVALU's (NYSE: SVU) female leadership team were included in Progressive Grocer's second annual "Top Women in Grocery" listing. Women were selected based on their exemplary performance, efforts, involvement, leadership and success within the supermarket industry.

The five SUPERVALU women honored as leaders in the grocery industry include: Shawne Murphy Johnson, SUPERVALU vice president, marketing, brand management and advertising; Janet Sparkman, SUPERVALU vice president, customer strategy and management; Nancy Chagares, Jewel-Osco senior vice president, marketing and merchandising; Tammy Brusseau, Albertsons Southern California division senior vice president, sales and merchandising; and Sherry Caldwell, Acme Markets division operations manager.

Nominations were collected from across the country representing multiple organizations and divisions within the supermarket industry. Progressive Grocer editors narrowed the list based on each nominee's leadership role within the company and industry, areas of responsibility, career honors and accomplishments, industry and community involvement and humanitarian activities.
