Employees encouraged to wear red on Friday, February 6
SUPERVALU INC.® (NYSE: SVU), one of the largest companies in the U.S.
grocery channel whose nationwide family of stores includes Acme®,
Albertsons®, bigg’s®, Cub Foods®,
Farm Fresh®, Hornbacher’s®,
Jewel-Osco®, Lucky®, Shaw’s/Star
Market™, Shop ‘n Save®, and Shoppers Food & Pharmacy®,
is marking the American Heart Association’s National Wear Red Day by
encouraging employees to wear red this Friday, February 6. Last fall
SUPERVALU announced it had signed on as a national supporter of the
American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women, aimed at educating women
about the risk factors for heart disease and urging them to take action
to reduce their personal risk.
“SUPERVALU is proud to support the American Heart Association in their
commitment to raising awareness of the risk of heart disease and to
helping women learn how to reduce the risk factors in their lives,” said
Jeff Noddle, SUPERVALU chairman and CEO. “We encourage our employees and
customers across the country to show their support for women’s health by
wearing red this Friday and learning more about the efforts of Go Red
For Women in promoting heart-healthy living.”
Health and nutrition is one of SUPERVALU’s designated areas of focus for
its charitable giving and volunteer activities, along with hunger relief
and environmental stewardship. In addition to participating in National
Wear Red Day, SUPERVALU offices and retail banners are undertaking a
variety of activities throughout the month of February to mark National
Heart Health Month. For more information about events in their area,
customers should contact their local stores. Contact information can be
found at www.supervalu.com
by clicking on each retail banner logo.
“As one of the country’s largest grocery retailers, SUPERVALU is
dedicated to supporting programs that educate and promote healthy
lifestyles and nutrition,” said Pam Knous, SUPERVALU executive vice
president and chief financial officer, chair of last year’s Twin Cities
Go Red For Women Campaign, and member of the American Heart
Association’s Operating Committee. “Participating in National Wear Red
Day is a simple, powerful way for our employees to show their support
for the fight against heart disease in women.”
According to the American Heart Association, more than 41 million
American women are living with one or more types of cardiovascular
disease, yet only one in five women view heart disease as their greatest
health threat. Each year, cardiovascular disease kills approximately
4550,000 women – almost one per minute – and more than the next five
causes of death combined, including cancer. Learn more and take the Go
