MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jul. 23, 2009-- SUPERVALU (NYSE: SVU) today announced the launch of an innovative new collection of frozen treats, including four new Stone Ridge Creamery® tart frozen yogurts and six new Culinary Circle™ ice cream desserts. With National Ice Cream month in full swing, SUPERVALU’s treasure trove of ice cream and tart frozen yogurt treats puts the grocery retailer at the forefront of cool dessert offerings and innovation. The new frozen treats are available nationwide at SUPERVALU’s family of stores, including Acme®, Albertsons®, bigg’s®, Cub Foods®, Farm Fresh®, Hornbacher’s®, Jewel-Osco®, Shaw’s/Star Market, Shop ‘n Save® and Shoppers Food & Pharmacy®.

Stone Ridge Creamery Tart Frozen Yogurt
Demonstrating its commitment to being the best place to shop, SUPERVALU is among the first U.S. retailers to launch a line of fat-free tart frozen yogurts with live, active cultures under its Stone Ridge Creamery brand. The four new Stone Ridge Creamery tart frozen yogurts join the brand’s lineup of 40 classic ice cream and sherbet flavors.

Tart yogurt, which offers a more savory, tangier dessert or snack option, originates from Korean-style tart frozen yogurt. Stone Ridge Creamery tart frozen yogurt is currently available in a 32-oz. quart size in four flavors — vanilla, peach, strawberry and pomegranate blueberry — at a price of approximately $2.99.

Culinary Circle Ice Cream Desserts
SUPERVALU’s Culinary Circle brand of premium food lovers’ foods is introducing a new line of ice cream desserts, allowing customers to bring a restaurant-quality experience home with them at a fraction of the cost. Each Culinary Circle ice cream dessert contains four unique layers: a bottom layer of premium ice cream, topped by a layer of rich mousse, topped by a decadent sauce and finished off with a layer of confectionary pieces. Culinary Circle ice cream desserts are currently available in six flavors: Caramel Pecan Praline, Cherry Chocolate Amore, Chocolate Truffle Gooey Fudge Brownie, Midnight Mint, Peanut Butter Passion and Tiramisu.

The desserts feature a first-of-its-kind packaging system that provides for easy serving. Each package contains two desserts or the equivalent of four servings for approximately $4.49.

SUPERVALU’s popular Stone Ridge Creamery brand is formally unveiling a new logo and identity that better reflects the brand’s premium taste, high-quality ingredients and broad assortment of ice creams, sherbets and frozen treats that range from classic favorites to the latest flavor trends. Stone Ridge Creamery’s new brand identity features a nostalgic look reminiscent of traditional ice cream parlors.

A favorite among customers at several SUPERVALU banners, the Stone Ridge Creamery brand is new to shoppers at Jewel-Osco stores in Illinois, Shaw’s/Star Market stores in New England and Acme stores in the Philadelphia area.

At a time when price and flavor are paramount to the customer experience, Stone Ridge Creamery offers high-quality ice cream with natural ingredients at a price 10 to 15 percent lower than comparable premium national brands. Each batch of ice cream is churned to creamy perfection, and is tested for quality and consistency to ensure that customers are getting the ice cream they love to eat.

In addition to the four new tart frozen yogurts, the Stone Ridge Creamery brand includes 40 flavors of ice creams, sherbets and frozen treats.   • According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, more than 1.5 billion gallons of ice cream were produced in 2007 — serving more than 90 percent of U.S. households.
